WOBA Trophy Design
For the fourth year running, STL is sponsoring an award in the 2019 West Oxfordshire Business Awards (WOBAs). Each year the winner of the STL West Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award is presented with a completely unique trophy that is designed by students from Abingdon and Witney College and made by Synolos.
The students from Abingdon & Witney College have recently held a competition to design this year’s trophy. The first year design students had a week in which to come up with ideas for a trophy. Each team had to present their ideas and the trophy concepts to a team of judges consisting of a representative of the WOBA organisers, their college lecturers, the trophy maker himself and STL’s FD, Bill Smith.
The final design will be crafted into a stunning wooden trophy by Synolos, a local charity that offers practical support and encouragement to help empower lives where that help is needed. Synolos has also invited the winning students to spend work experience time in their studio throughout the production process.
Bill Smith, STL’s Finance Director, said: “The standard of the designs that the students presented this year were the highest that we’ve ever seen, which made it a real challenge to choose just one to be made into the actual WOBA trophy. The winners not only had a trophy design that worked well, but the thought process behind their ideas and designs was equally as impressive.”
There are 11 WOBA categories that businesses can enter and the winner of each award will be considered for the overall STL Communications West Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award 2019. The deadline for entries is 3 December 2018 and the winners will be revealed at a glamorous WOBA Gala Dinner that takes place on 29 March 2019.
