STL and The MGroup held a very successful Charity Footgolf Networking event at Heythrop Park Resort on 8th August, with 20 teams from local businesses participating.
The game of Footgolf is a cross of football and golf, with players kicking a football into an oversized hole rather than using a more conventional golf ball and club. Heythrop Park Resort has a special Footgolf course complete with oversized holes suitable for size 5 footballs. The object of the game is to get the ball into the hole using only your feet in the fewest number of shots possible. With four players in each team each with a football, it seemed to present quite a challenge for most people to get the ball near the pin and then into the hole.
The STL team consisted of Oliver Oswin, Alan Rogers, Tim Hardy and Tony Brown, combining our expertise in football (Ollie and Alan) and golf (Tim and Tony). Tim said, “It was much harder than one might think to kick the ball into the hole avoiding the ditches and hazards – it really is a good fun game that anyone can play. Being a golfer really didn’t help! ”
After 18 holes of Footgolf, the teams got together in the bar for a fish and chip supper before the prize giving. Steve Basham of The MGroup was the overall winner and the winning team was 3D Aluminium of Witney. The STL team came third.
All profits from the event and the raffle, which raised a fantastic £500, will go to SpecialEffect, a charity that helps put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games. SpecialEffect use technology ranging from modified joypads to eye-control, to find a way for people to play to the very best of their abilities.
