Twin Town 2018 sponsors at Houses of Parliament
The quest to find sponsors for the Twin Town Challenge 2018 kicked off with an event at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 25th October. Hosted by Witney MP Robert Courts, guests heard presentations by SpecialEffect founder Dr Mick Donegan and by Twin Town organiser and STL’s MD Brendon Cross.
The Twin Town Challenge 2018 is a charity car rally that will see 100 cars costing just £500 travel from Blenhiem Palace, near Witney to its twin town of Le Touquet. The event takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend 2018 and will raise money for Oxfordshire charity, SpecialEffect. Participants are expected to include businesses and individuals from across Oxfordshire and the games industry.
All the costs of the event are covered by sponsorship so that every penny paid by the teams to enter and all their fundraising goes directly to the charity. Building on the success of previous events in 2014 and 2016, which jointly raised over £500,000 for SpecialEffect, the 2018 event is expected to raise a record £500,000.
STL’s MD Brendon Cross is the organiser of the event. Brendon said, “Being the third Twin Town Challenge, many businesses have experienced the positive impact that sponsoring this event can have on their staff, customers and the many opportunities it creates to raise awareness of their firm.
Many sponsors have been quick off the mark to sponsor specific activities for TTC18 in order to make the most of the publicity in the run up to this event. From volunteer kit to media bus, breakfasts, lunches and dinners to the safety briefing, very pound of sponsorship helps us to achieve our goal of half a million pounds.”
Brendon adds, “We would encourage people to go online and register to take part now in order to avoid disappointment as we can only take 100 cars.”
The 2018 Twin Town Challenge will depart from Blenheim Palace and head to France where they will enjoy a weekend of fun challenges including treasure hunt and car based activities, including a day at a motor circuit. The centre of Le Touquet comes to a stand still on the Sunday evening when the Village Idiots, an 11-piece band from Stonesfield in Oxfordshire, will play live in at a mega Anglo-French street party.
Twin Town Challenge is the brainchild of STL Communications MD Brendon Cross and is organised by a team of volunteers. All costs are covered by sponsorship. Brendon adds, “We are grateful to all the businesses who sponsor this event, many of whom also pledge volunteers to come on the Twin Town Challenge to act as marshals and fundraisers.”
The money will be used by Charlbury based SpecialEffect to help more young people with disabilities to play computer games and communicate using eye gaze technology.
