Shortlisted for a Comms Business Award
STL has been shortlisted for the Hidden Heroes Comms Business Award. The award recognises people and companies in the communications industry who give their time to raising money for or helping good causes.
The STL entry was on behalf our MD Brendon Cross and his inspirational event called Twin Town Challenge, which took place in 2014 and again in 2016 and raised £450,000 for the charity SpecialEffect.
Twin Town Challenge sees 100 cars costing less than £500 travel from Witney to its twin town of Le Touquet via some iconic race tracks, a series of points based challenges, a street party with a live band and lots more fundraising fun. In 2016, the cars left from the iconic Blenheim Palace, had a few laps of Silverstone before heading to Dover and over to France on Eurotunnel. We took 500 people, fed them 6 times over the weekend, entertained them with an Elvis impersonator and an 11 piece band in a closed street in central Le Touquet (with the French joining in the dancing!), challenged them to change tyres, drive round Abbeville circuit, blind driving, car boxing, to pimp their cars (and their team) and take part in auctions and lotteries.
In addition to organising the event, over 20 STL staff travelled to France as volunteers to help with the marshalling, organising and bucket shaking. We took a bus of shame for any cars that broke down and a team of mechanics to make sure no-one used the bus of shame.
The winners of the Comms Business Awards including the Hidden Heroes Award, will be announced at a distinguished awards ceremony on Thursday 15th June 2017 at The Royal Lancaster London Hotel. The host will be Al Murray, known as ‘probably’ the most famous Pub Landlord in the UK and hundreds of guests from the ICT channel will be present.
